A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Zephaniah 3:14-18a

Shout for joy, O daughter Zion!

Sing joyfully, O Israel!

Be glad and exult with all your heart,

O daughter Jerusalem!

The LORD has removed the judgment against you

he has turned away your enemies;

the King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst,

you have no further misfortune to fear.

On that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem:

Fear not, O Zion, be not discouraged!

The LORD, your God, is in your midst,

a mighty savior;

he will rejoice over you with gladness,

and renew you in his love,

he will sing joyfully because of you,

Brothers and sisters:

Rejoice in the Lord always.

I shall say it again: rejoice!

Your kindness should be known to all.

The Lord is near.

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,

by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,

make your requests known to God.

Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding

will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

The crowds asked John the Baptist,

“What should we do?”

“Teacher, what should we do?”

He answered them,

“Stop collecting more than what is prescribed.”

Soldiers also asked him,

“And what is it that we should do?”

He told them,

“Do not practice extortion,

do not falsely accuse anyone,

and be satisfied with your wages.”

Now the people were filled with expectation,

and all were asking in their hearts

whether John might be the Christ.

John answered them all, saying,

“I am baptizing you with water,

but one mightier than I is coming.

I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.

He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor

and to gather the wheat into his barn,

but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

Exhorting them in many other ways,

he preached good news to the people.

14 군사들도 그에게 “저희는 또 어떻게 해야 합니까?” 하고 묻자,

요한은 그들에게 “아무도 강탈하거나 갈취하지 말고

너희 봉급으로 만족하여라.” 하고 일렀다.

15 백성은 기대에 차 있었으므로,

모두 마음속으로 요한이 메시아가 아닐까 하고 생각하였다.

16 그래서 요한은 모든 사람에게 말하였다.

“나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 준다.

그러나 나보다 더 큰 능력을 지니신 분이 오신다.

나는 그분의 신발 끈을 풀어 드릴 자격조차 없다.

그분께서는 너희에게 성령과 불로 세례를 주실 것이다.

17 또 손에 키를 드시고 당신의 타작마당을 깨끗이 치우시어,

알곡은 당신의 곳간에 모아들이시고

쭉정이는 꺼지지 않는 불에 태워 버리실 것이다.”

18 요한은 그 밖에도 여러 가지로 권고하면서 백성에게 기쁜 소식을 전하였다.

<Profession of Faith>- Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. 

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. 

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. 

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. 

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. 

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. 

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, 

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. 

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. 

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 

<The Universal Prayer>  

+ Filled with the good news of the Lord's coming, we dare to present our needs and those of all the world.

1. For our bishops, priests, deacons and all who serve God's people, we pray to the Lord. ◎ Lord, hear our prayer.

2. For the civil leaders of our nation and our city, that they always act with justice and compassion, we pray to the Lord. ◎ Lord, hear our prayer.

3. For people who are poor or hungry or homeless, that they receive what they need through the service of Christians, we pray to the Lord. ◎ Lord, hear our prayer.

4. For believers in the one God, that all traditions become one community of Christian service, we pray to the Lord. ◎ Lord, hear our prayer.

+ Holy God, close to us now as we await the coming of your Son, give us your peace and guard us with love. We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
